One of the best known names from Spain in the flamenco and world music scene.
“In the music of Las Migas, flamenco mixes with Latin American elements, pop and folk sounds and a jazz touch in an inimitable way to form a wonderful melodic ensemble.”
Las Migas are the proof that in flamenco not only the dance but also the music can be feminine. Las Migas take inspiration from traditional flamenco, but make it sound fresh and innovative.
In flamenco, women usually play the role of dancers, but rarely set the tone. However, flamenco music can also be feminine. Las Migas is the proof. With Marta Robles, Alicia Grillo, Roser Loscos and Carolina La Chispa, the quartet is made up entirely of women. But that alone is not what makes their flamenco sound so fresh and innovative.
Las Migas are inspired by traditional flamenco, but transcend its language. The girls from Andalusia and Catalonia based in Barcelona bring to the band two guitars, a violin, a cajón, excellent voices and their accumulated experiences. Marta, Roser and Alicia come from flamenco and classical guitar, Bego from fado, jazz and habaneras. This diverse background, which they let shine through in a subliminal way, makes Las Migas such an exciting and welcome guest on Spain’s most famous stages as well as festivals across Europe.
We are the crumbs (Las Migas) from the bread that is flamenco. Migas is also the name of a dish common throughout Spain, originally a meal for the poor, which is quite rich depending on the region.
Las Migas.
Their Mediterranean music recipe definitely whets our appetite for more!
